Privacy Policy

Overview

Privacy Shield is a Chrome extension that automatically covers the page you are viewing the moment you look away — when your cursor leaves the page, the window loses focus, or after a period of inactivity. Privacy Shield runs entirely inside your browser. We do not operate servers, we do not have user accounts, and we do not collect, store, sell, or share your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what data the extension handles and how.

Data We Collect

None. The developer of Privacy Shield does not collect any personal information, browsing history, page content, analytics, usage statistics, crash reports, or identifiers. The extension makes no network requests of its own, contains no advertising, and includes no third-party code or tracking SDKs.

What the Extension Observes — and What It Doesn't

To know when to show or hide the shield, the extension listens for simple presence signals on the pages you visit: whether the mouse cursor is inside the page, whether the browser window has focus, and whether there has been any recent mouse or keyboard activity.

• It does not read, record, or transmit the content of any page.
• It does not log which keys you press — keyboard events are used only as an "activity happened" signal for the inactivity timer and the peek/boss-mode shortcuts.
• It does not track which websites you visit. Your site whitelist/blacklist is checked locally against the current page's domain and never leaves your browser.

Data Stored on Your Device

The extension keeps the following data in Chrome's built-in extension storage. None of it is ever transmitted to us:

• Your settings (privacy mode, triggers, timings, site whitelist/blacklist, language, and similar preferences) are stored via chrome.storage.sync. If you are signed in to Chrome with sync enabled, Chrome itself may sync these settings across your devices through your Google account — this is handled entirely by Google under Google's Privacy Policy, and the developer has no access to it.
• Daily statistics (how many times the shield engaged today and for how long) and the pause state are stored via chrome.storage.local and never leave your device.

You can reset all settings to their defaults at any time from the extension's settings page, and uninstalling the extension removes all of its stored data.

Permissions

Privacy Shield requests the minimum permissions needed to do its job:

• Access to websites (<all_urls>) — required so the shield overlay can be drawn on top of any page you choose to protect. The content script only renders the cover and watches the presence signals described above.
• Storage — to save your settings and daily statistics, as described above.
• Scripting — to apply the shield to tabs that were already open when the extension is installed or updated, so you are protected immediately without reloading anything.

Children's Privacy

Privacy Shield is a productivity tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
