Overview
Gather is a native macOS app that automatically organizes your files using rules you define and optional on-device AI. Gather runs entirely on your Mac. We do not operate servers, we do not have user accounts, and we do not collect, store, sell, or share your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app handles and how.
Data We Collect
None. The developer of Gather does not collect any personal information, analytics, usage statistics, crash reports, or identifiers. The app contains no advertising and no third-party tracking SDKs.
Your Files
Gather organizes the folders you choose (such as Downloads or Desktop) by moving files into destinations according to your rules. Your files never leave your Mac, and Gather accesses only the folders you explicitly grant it. The app keeps the following local data on your device, which is never transmitted to us:
- Watched folders, stored as macOS security-scoped bookmarks so the app can keep access to the folders you selected.
- Your rules (conditions and destinations) and move history, which power the undo feature and the in-app statistics.
- App preferences (appearance, schedule, duplicate handling, language, and similar settings), stored locally on your device.
All of this is stored inside the app's own sandbox container on your Mac. Gather organizes files locally on disk — it does not upload, copy, or read the contents of your files off your device.
AI Smart Sorting
Gather's optional AI Smart Sorting classifies files by their content to decide where they belong. This runs fully on-device using Apple's built-in on-device intelligence (Apple Foundation Models, on supported Macs). No file contents, text, or images are ever sent to the developer or to any third-party service for classification. If your Mac does not support on-device intelligence, the feature simply stays off.
iCloud Rule Sync
If you enable iCloud rule sync (a Pro feature), your rules — not your files — are synced across your Macs using your own iCloud account through Apple's CloudKit. This data is stored in your private iCloud database and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. The developer has no access to it, and it is never routed through any servers of ours. If you leave iCloud sync off, your rules stay only on your Mac.
Purchases
Gather offers a one-time Gather Pro purchase. Payment is processed by Apple through the App Store — we never see or receive your payment details. To manage entitlements and restore purchases, Gather uses RevenueCat, which processes your anonymous App Store transaction information (such as a random app-user identifier and receipt data) solely to determine whether Pro is active. This does not include your name, email, or file data. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy and Apple's Privacy Policy.
Finder Extension
Gather includes an optional Finder extension that adds context-menu actions (such as organizing a folder on demand). It works entirely on your Mac, communicates only with the Gather app on your device, and sends no data anywhere.
Children's Privacy
Gather is a productivity tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
